BRAVE SPELLERS

Today we had a fun lesson about being brave spellers.  I played the repeating part of the song "Brave" by Sara Barielles and asked the students to think about why I did it before writing time.  "You want see us always being brave spellers!"  Then I gave them the following prompt  "A brave speller..."  They came up with the following ideas:
*never gives up on writing
*makes the sounds and guesses what letter it is
*makes his/her best guess
*knows how to help himself/herself
*keeps working
*WRITES!!!!
All of our brave spellers for the day (everyone) got their name written on the smartboard chart.
We will be playing the clip from our new theme song, Brave, daily before writing time!

Read and Munch

Today we had our first kindergarten Read and Munch.  The students enjoyed listening to the stories and loved munching on the Oreos.  It was fun to have parents and grandparents joining us this afternoon.  Some even stayed to play at centers!

Wild Things!

We read Maurice Sendak's famous book, Where the Wild Things Are, and created some wild things of our own. The children loved adding the yellow googly eyes so that their wild things could "roll their terrible eyes" just like the wild things in the book.  Our wild things are currently on display in the classroom, but will be making their way to your house sometime soon!

Aren't the texture bears adorable?

Here are just a few of the cuties that have come in so far. The kids are doing a fabulous job using texture words to describe the different parts of their bears (hard, soft, bumpy, smooth, silky, rough, etc). If your child hasn't brought his/her bear to school yet, try to have it turned in by Friday, October 4.
